Salmon Tagging

New rules for retaining salmon are being introduced by the club to help conserve stocks, thanks to Andy green for this explanation of the scheme.

Here are the rules -

SALMON TAGGING SCHEME

The 2010 season will be remembered for it's very good Salmon runs, with many fish being caught, unfortunately sometimes too many. As a result you the members voted for a Salmon tagging scheme to be introduced starting in 2011. Unfortunately the salmon fishing that year (2011) was back to 2009 levels.
So that all members are familiar with the tagging procedure, we have set it out below.

Coloured / Numbered tags will be issued to all members per season as follows :- Full members, Permit holders, Students, Disabled, OAP'S and Juniors :- 10 tags.

All day ticket holders :- 2 tags per day (max. of 10 tags per person) All weekly ticket holders :- 5 tags per week (max. of 10 tags per person).

These tags are for Salmon / Grilse only and do not apply to any other fish.

Tags must be used in numerical order.

On killing a Salmon / Grilse a tag must be placed through the mouth, out through the gill plate and locked together firmly to form a loop.

The fish must be tagged immediately at exact place of capture.

Be aware NO Salmon to be killed before June 16th (E.A.Byelaw.) Once an anglers 10 tags have been used all Salmon must be returned with the minimum of stress and unharmed.

Under NO circumstances must a Salmon be killed and taken from the place of capture without a tag fitted.

If you forget your tags and leave them at home or in the boot of your car etc. etc., you will not be able to keep that fish and it must be returned.

On request and production of their permit all members must show their catch to another member or bailiff.

Tags must remain on your fish until your days fishing has been completed and you have left the river completely.

You can only use your own tags for your fish and nobody else’s.

We must do everything we can to conserve our Salmon stocks so please remember the importance of this tagging scheme.

FAILURE TO COMPLY WITH THE ABOVE WILL RESULT IN DISCIPLINARY ACTION BY THE CLUB WHICH COULD RESULT IN THE WITHDRAWAL OF MEMBERSHIP.
